Friday 11th March 2016
Dear
Parents/Caregivers,
As a culmination
of our Inquiry focus on The New Zealand Flag Referendum, in which we have
investigated identity, citizenship and democratic processes, the Year 7/8
Syndicate are off to Parliament!
On Thursday 14th April we will
take the bus from school at 9am to
arrive at Parliament in time for a 10 am tour. To suit the guidelines from
Parliament, the students will be split into two groups. One group will take a 10am tour of
Parliament, while the other visits Te Papa .
We will meet for lunch then swap so that the second group can take the
Parliament tour at 1pm. The tours last
90 minutes so we will leave Wellington
at 2.30 to be back as close as possible to the end of school.
If
your family lives in Wellington or Petone, or you would prefer to pick up your
child from there due to your after school arrangements being time sensitive
(i.e. if they may miss the bus) please contact your child’s classroom teacher
and we will do our utmost to work around this with the bus company. There is a high chance we will return to
school a little after 3pm.
There is no
charge for the tour of Parliament or Te Papa and the cost of the buses will be
covered using the students’ activity fee.
In addition to
our teaching staff, we will need to take two parents from each class to assist
with groups. They will accompany us on
the bus, though to save on costs it will be standing room only. If you are able to join us for what promises
to be a fabulous day, please talk to your child’s class teacher.
We are unsure as
to what the weather will be doing on this day so, to ensure they have a great
day, students will need to bring:
- Warm clothes & a waterproof jacket
- Comfortable shoes for walking
- A large named, filled water bottle
- Plenty of lunch and morning tea
- Any medication they are required to carry
(inhalers, etc)
- Their sunhat
Kind regards
Annette Borgonje
